Saga Furs has supported Qiu Hao, who is one of the most celebrated China’s new wave fashion designers who hosted a mini exhibition during AW 2019 Shanghai Fashion Week. The exhibition presented Qiu Hao’s significant design pieces since 2001, including his fur design pieces from 2015.
Qiu Hao is one of the most celebrated China’s new wave fashion designers. In 2004 Qiu Hao went to study MA course in women’s wear design at Central Saint Martins in London. Two years later, he returned to Shanghai to officially establish his own eponymous and namesake label “QIUHAO”.
His collection and story have been featured in VOGUE, ELLE, HARPER’S BAZAAR, L’OFFICIEL, WWD, BBC and more. Furthermore, he has been invited to show his collection in Singapore, Paris, Stockholm, Sydney and Tokyo. Qiu Hao’s knitwear collection won the Prestigious Woolmark Prize in 2008, and Qiu Hao thus joins a group of top designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Donna Karan and Giorgio Armani in the Woolmark hall of fame.
Qiu Hao’s exhibition speaks to consumers through local key opinion leaders and inspires to use fur in a new stylish way
Saga Furs has been working with Qiu Hao since 2015 and he has been invited to Saga Furs Design Centre for design research. During the time spent in Design Centre he has got a lot of inspiration, which he was then able to use in his future collections and projects. During recent seasons he has continued to use Saga Furs mink and fox skins, as well as Saga techniques when creating his winter collections. Gold fox coat, multi-purpose mink sweater and army green mink coat have become QIUHAO’s symbols.
“I like nature and natural materials. At home I have many plants and pets. I like spending time with them, and they give me many design ideas. I also like using natural materials in my collections. I think fur is just one natural material among the rest, same as cotton, silk or cashmere. I am using fur because it’s natural and very simple. In addition, Saga Furs has done many things in terms of sustainability and animal welfare, which allows designers like me not to hesitate using fur”, explains Qiu Hao.
Local key opinion leaders modelled for the collection
Saga Furs also supported a photo shoot of Qiu Hao’s new fur collection. All the fur collection photos were used in the mini exhibition during AW 2019 Shanghai Fashion Week. Local key opinion leaders (KOL) of Shanghai modelled for the photo shoot to influence and have a closer communication with the final consumers. Posters with the fur collection were distributed among buyers visiting his showroom and exhibition visitors. Photoshoot images do not only present Qiu Hao’s new fur collection, but also inspire people to see how to style fur in a new, stylish way.
