The mink sale at Saga Furs auction that commenced on 8 September concluded today. There was a record number of 5.6 million mink on offer and 4.2 million were sold. It is the largest amount of mink ever brokered by the company. In total, 60 buyers participated the auction which is more than in any international auction this year. Main buying was done to China with support from Turkey and Greece.
“Despite the exceptional circumstances the company sold more mink pelts than during the previous season, although a significant amount of the pelts collected will be moved to be sold in 2021”, says Magnus Ljung, CEO of Saga Furs.
“The price level is exceptionally low, reflecting the uncertainty created by the Covid-19 pandemic in different market areas. This means that many farmers will not be able to continue their fur production after this season,” Ljung adds.
