Saga Furs introduced the Chinese Zodiac calendar to our Top Lot Programme in 2017, which features a new animal in the form of a furry, plush friend according to each Chinese New Year. The year 2022 will be the year of a Tiger and here we want to introduce you with Lou – our new Top Lot animal for the year 2022.
Chinese zodiac animals have lucky meanings and Chinese people associate each animal with certain characteristics. It’s believed that people born in a given year have the personality of that year’s animal. There are 12 Chinese zodiac signs in total, in the following order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each sign is named after an animal, and each animal has its own unique characteristics.

Designing the tiger Lou
Tiger Lou is made of Black Cross and White mink, as well as Shadow fox in natural colors. The tip of Lou’s nose was made of Palomino and dyed mink. Lou was designed and made in new Saga Furs Creative Hub located in Vantaa, Finland, by a talented young Italian Furrier & Product Developer, Vittoria Tosatto.
“As I’m new at Saga Furs, I felt huge responsibility and I felt honored being able to design this year’s mascot and continue the story of the Top Lot animal. I also felt excited and proud working on this project. I love music, so I wanted to take inspiration for the name from there, thinking who the best match with the tiger could be. So, I chose Lou, like one of my favorite singers, whose songs are entwined with my first memories of living here in Finland”, explains Vittoria Tosatto.
The year of the Tiger – what does it mean?
The Zodiac sign Tiger is one of the most auspicious Chinese symbols, and it represents strength, braveness, and courage. Tiger is also a zodiac sign honored as the ultimate protector of home and hearth.
People born in a year of a Tiger are considered courageous and active, someone who love a good challenge and adventure in life. In addition, they have a good sense of justice and a commitment to help others for the greater good.
As Chinese New Year will start officially on 1 February 2022, the Top Lot Tiger will be offered starting from Saga Furs’ March 2022 auction.
