The Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair, the biggest event of its kind, is widely recognized by global industry players as the key platform for sourcing quality fur garments and raw materials. This year the fair took place over 4 days, from the 25th through the 28th of February 2016 in Hong Kong. The annual fair drew 237 international exhibitors from 13 countries and regions, including 103 Hong Kong Fur Federation members. The number of visitors who participated in this trade show, fair and exhibition was nearly 5000.
Saga Furs exhibited a remarkable booth again at the fair this year. Saga showed amazing fur garments from some famous international designers at their booth, as well as some of the latest innovative fur techniques. A constant flow of designers, partners and fashion companies visited the stand to find inspiration for creativity as well as solid business concepts. An especially attractive feature of the booth was the Saga Furs mink monkey, hand-crafted in the design center for the year of the monkey in the Chinese calendar. Many visitors took selfies with this cute furry icon.
Pertti Fallenius, CEO of Saga Furs, and his team had a busy schedule full of meetings during the fair. The latest market developments were collected as Saga’s upcoming auction information was being shared.
“No doubt the weakness of the Russian market is still harming the fur trade, but we saw here that most companies have improved their products by using new fashion trends and techniques, developed in the Saga Furs design center, to attract buyers from international markets. The result has been that people from the Chinese and Korean fashion and fur industry have been the main ordering forces. Smaller sample orders were placed by European and American retailers,” Fallenius said, “In addition, buyers’ confidence has been restored as the recent auction has brought stability to the challenging mink market. The forecast for coming auctions is that they will have some challenges but many more opportunities.”
Following the Hong Kong Fair, the Saga Furs March auction will have inspection days starting on the March 1st and selling on March 8th. The auction is organized together with American Legend Cooperative and Fur Harvesters Auction Inc., in order to offer one-stop shopping in a single location.
“When fur is so much in fashion and pelt prices are low, our sustainable materials and inspirational techniques will be highly demanded. The March auction will attract a good attendance from all markets,” says Samantha Vesala, Saga Furs’ Business Director for Asia. The joint auction will offer a large variety of different fur types, including 6,2 million mink, 850.000 Saga® Fox and Finnraccoon, and 400.000 wild furs from Fur Harvesters.
