How do you know if a trend has legs? When you see it on the street. And during the AW16 shows, there was just as many fur pieces off as on the runway, often worn with jeans and trainers for a modern take on luxury.
Fox – natural or dyed – is getting lots of action as the fashion industry’s favourite statement outerwear (Marco de Vincenzo’s tiger stripe fox coat was a hit with showgoers, among them Moda Operandi’s Lauren Santo Domingo) while style blogger Olivia Palermo showcased the feathered fox technique in Prabal Gurung.
Colourful intarsia mink was everywhere, from Gucci’s candy-cane chevron to Creatures of the Wind’s star-spangled stoles and Mary Katrantzou’s Victorian tapestry – the latter worn by Vogue China columnist Sofie Valkiers.
Many editors were lucky enough to get their hands on fur pieces fresh off the fall runways: Vogue Japan’s Anna Dello Russo was seen in Dsquared’s showstopping samurai-inspired fox and mink while Tatler Russia’s Anya Ziourova nabbed Jason Wu’s mink-collared leather coat.
